The word Munnar is derived from combining three words of the word Moonnu – Three and Aar – that means small River. The name Munnar is originated from the fact that the hill station which was then the erstwhile summer capital of British was nestled amidst the confluence of three rivers – Muthirapuzha, Nallathanni and Kundala.
