About Peppara

Peppara Wildlife Sanctuary is located near Thiruvananthapuram in South Kerala. It comprises of the catchment area of the Karamana river, that originates from Chemmunjimottai, the tallest hill in the sanctuary. The wildlife sanctuary is named after the Peppara dam, that was commissioned in 1983 to provide water to the residents of the city. It was due to the ecological significance of the area; the place was named as a sanctuary.
