About Gwalior

Gwalior is known for its rich historical past. The grand architecture and surrounding hills have kept the city's charm unadulterated. Gwalior is renowned for beautiful palaces, age-old temples and forts. The medieval hilltop fort is known as 'the pearl amongst fortresses in India' by the emperor Babur. These attributes make it the most sought-after destination in Central India.

Gwalior is the birthplace of the great musician, Tansen, and possesses a rich heritage of the Rajputs, followed by the Britishers. It also received historical superiority from the powerful Scindia clan.

Did you know that among the five famous royal states of India, Gwalior is one of them to enjoy a 21 gun salute during the British rule. Ibn Battuta bestowed Gwalior with the title "fine town of white stone", and Warren Hastings in 1780 called it the "key to Indostan".

The Old City is an exciting place to stroll. History buffs enjoy Gwalior primarily for a slightly off-beat two-day break.
