The Satpura National Park is located in suburbs of Madhya Pradesh and is one of the most diverse national parks in entire Central India. It was set up in 1981 and ranged at an altitude from 300 to 1,352 metres. It is one of the most beautiful tiger reserves in India and has won the TOFT Wildlife Tourism Award for the most visitor-friendly wildlife destinations in 2010. The Satpura National Park is the only sanctuary along with the Bori and Pachmarhi sanctuaries, that provides around 550 square miles of the tiger reserve area.
The park spreads over an area of 202 square miles and sources its name from the Satpura Hill ranges, or Mahadeo hills. It is an ideal destination for the tourists who wish to spot animals such as Bison, Tigers, and leopards - all in an unconventional way.
While exploring the Satpura National Park, remember that it is extremely rugged and consists of sandstone peaks, gorges and ravines. The scenery is incredibly surreal, with the densely forested hills reflecting the Tawa reservoir.
The nearest town to the Satpura National Park is Pachmarhi; the nearest railhead is Piparia, 55 km away. Bhopal is located at a distance of 210 km. The places worth visiting near Satpura National Park are:
